This guide describes Dossier 0.x. Your store has Dossier , so some settings may be different or missing.
Blog
Blog is the page that lists the posts of one of your blogs: a title, links to the topics you cover, the posts in a grid and page numbers at the bottom. It is used on the blog template, and also on each topic page that opens from a tag.
Write the posts
Section titled “Write the posts”The section shows what’s in the blog: you don’t add posts in the theme editor. Write them, and create more blogs if you need them, in Content > Blog posts in your Shopify admin. The page title is the blog’s title.
If a blog has no posts yet, the page says so and offers a link to your products, so customers don’t reach a dead end.
Let customers browse by topic
Section titled “Let customers browse by topic”With Show tag links on, the tags you give your posts become a row of links under the title, for example “Care guide”, “Style notes”, “Behind the scenes”, plus “All”. Each tag opens its own page with only the posts that have that tag; the topic also appears in the title count and in the breadcrumbs, as Home / Journal / Care guide. On phones the row scrolls sideways.
Tags are shown as you write them on the posts, accents and capitals included, so keep their spelling consistent from post to post. Topic pages are real pages that search engines can find, and they work even with JavaScript turned off.
Choose the layout
Section titled “Choose the layout”Layout sets how the posts are arranged:
- Editorial shows the latest post larger, across the whole row, at the top of the first page. Further pages and topic pages use the regular grid, since their first post isn’t the newest in the blog.
- Grid shows every post at the same size.
Columns on desktop sets how many posts sit side by side on large screens; tablets show two and phones one. With Editorial, choose Posts per page as one more than a multiple of the columns, for example 7 with three columns, so the rows below the large post are full.
Decide what each card shows
Section titled “Decide what each card shows”Under Blog card you can turn the featured image, the date, the author and the excerpt on or off, and choose the shape of the photos in Image ratio. The cards are the same as in the Blog posts section.
- The featured image is the one set on each post. A post without one shows a thin line instead, so it still lines up with the others.
- The excerpt is the one you write in the post’s Excerpt field. If it’s empty, the card shows the first words of the post.
