Cart notification

The Cart notification confirms each product added to the cart when your store doesn’t use the Cart drawer. It appears at the top of the screen, on any page except the cart page, with the product just added and a link to the cart. It lives in the Sidebars group of the theme editor.

Turn the notification on

There is nothing to switch on. The notification works only when the Cart drawer section isn’t in the Sidebars group: remove the drawer and the notification takes over. With the drawer in place, the drawer confirms each add instead, so customers never see two confirmations.

If you remove both sections, customers still get a short confirmation next to the button they pressed, and the cart count in the header still updates.

What customers see

After an add, the notification shows the product’s image, name, chosen options, quantity and price, followed by Continue shopping and View cart with the number of items in the cart. The cart count in the Header updates at the same time.

The notification doesn’t interrupt shopping: it doesn’t move the keyboard focus, and screen readers announce the product added. It closes by itself after a few seconds, but not while the pointer or the keyboard focus is on it. Customers can also close it with the close button, Continue shopping, the Esc key or a click elsewhere on the page.

The count next to View cart always has two digits, such as “View cart (02)”, whatever cart count style you chose in the header.

Preview the colors

Select the section in the theme editor to see the notification, held still. It shows the first product in your cart, so add one first if your cart is empty. Color scheme colors the notification. It closes when you select another section.
