# Scrolling text

Source: <https://docs.ictsviluppo.example/dossier/sections/section-scrolling-text/>

Scrolling text is a band of short phrases that move slowly across the page, separated by a symbol. Use it to repeat what matters to your customers, such as free shipping, easy returns or a new season, often right below the slideshow. You can add it to any page.

## Add the phrases

Each phrase is a **Text** block, with an optional **Link**. You can add up to eight and drag them into the order you want. A block without text is skipped, and a section without any phrase is not shown in your store.

Keep the phrases short, a few words each. The section repeats them as many times as needed to fill the band on any screen, so a single short phrase works too.

**Separator** is the symbol between the phrases, a slash by default. You can type another character, such as a dot or a star. Screen readers skip it.

## Change the speed and direction

**Scrolling speed** is the number of seconds for one full loop of the phrases: a higher number means slower text. **Direction** set to **Forward** moves the text in the reading direction of the language, so in right-to-left languages, such as Arabic and Hebrew, it moves the other way automatically. **Reverse** moves it the opposite way.

**Text size** changes both the size of the phrases and the height of the band. **Show dividers** adds a line above and below the band.

## How customers can stop it

The band is the only part of the page that moves on its own, so it always comes with a pause button at the end of the band, which works even with JavaScript turned off. The band also stops while a customer points at it or moves into it with the keyboard. When a customer reaches a link with the keyboard, the band goes back to the start so the link is in view.

For visitors who prefer reduced motion the band doesn’t move at all: the phrases are shown once, centered, and wrap onto more lines when the screen is narrow.

Screen readers read each phrase once, not the repeated copies. **Accessibility label** names the band for them; leave it empty to use “Store highlights”.

## Show it only between two dates

Turn on **Schedule visibility** and set a start, an end, or both, for example to announce a weekend sale. See [Scheduling](https://docs.ictsviluppo.example/dossier/scheduling).
